Berlin, February 28, 2017: The English version of the “MediaStandard Print 2016 – Technical Guidelines for Data, Proof and Production Run Printing”, edited by the German Printing and Media Association (bvdm), is available immediately for download.
The previous English edition, which was published in 2006, was widely distributed and heavily used all around the world. MediaStandard Print lays the foundation for smooth cooperation between customer, prepress service provider and printer during media production. It is based on international standards such as the ISO 12647 series. The latest »Media Standard Print 2016« edition is the first set of guidelines in English to describe the consistent application of the standard offset printing conditions (ISO 12647-2) that were updated in 2013 to take into account the effect of optical brightening agents. It also offers a detailed treatment of the use of the CIEDE2000 colour difference formula, which became obligatory for digital proofs from October 2016 onwards (ISO 12647-7).
Using mkiv one can create PDF/A compliant outputs. The format PDF/A, where A stands for Archive, is a format supposed to be sustainable for archiving purposes (see. ISO Coated V2 300% (ECI) as the defined Output Intent. All files must be run through a flightchecking application before transmission, to ensure file and colour integrity. Content of digital files must be verified before transmission and all relevant graphics and fonts must be included. Select 'Profile' and in the drop-down menu select 'U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 Adobe InDesign There is no need to convert your InDesign document to CMYK or to set a color mode when creating the file.
